Barroco-Baroque-Barock

HAENDEL 1685-1759
The name Baroque describes a highly ornamental style of European art, architecture and music from around 1600 to 1750. Baroque paintings and buildings were very ornate, and the musica echoed this. Many new musical forms developed at this time, including opera and new instrumental music, such as the suite, concerto and sonata.

PUBLIC CONCERTS

Most composers were employed by wealthy people or gthe church, to write music for religious services and for entertainment at court. Public concerts, where the audience payed to see a performance, began in the late 1600s. This meant that composers could now write music to suit the tastes of a much wider audience, rather than just the church or nobility. Haendel made a living mostly from staging his operas and religious works called oratorios.
